DESCRIPTION:

AT-BITUCOTE is an emulsified thixotropic acrylic modified bitumen protective coating. The coating dries to form a black flexible protective film. The finished film forms a tough barrier to vapor transmission.

AT-BITUCOTE conforms to ASTM D 1227, Type III, Class 1

USES:

ADVANTAGES:

SURFACE PREPARATION:

• All surfaces must be free of grease, oil and dust. Very smooth surfaces should be roughened for better adhesion.
• Surface faults such as blisters, holes and cracks should be cleaned, and then repaired with flexible filler.
• Small hair-line cracks can be painted with AT-BITUCOTE brush in, allow it to dry, then repeat until filled or at least sealed.
• Rusty metal should be cleaned by blasting or other means for suitable standard then primed with a Rust Converter. Other metals should be suitably primed or treated.

TECHNICAL DATA:

PRIMING:

Priming is recommended for weak and porous surfaces, to fill up pinholes and shrinkage cracks. Dilute AT-BITUCOTE with 40% LOCAL THINNER and spread evenly over the substrate.

APPLICATION:

• Apply AT-BITUCOTE directly from can.
• Apply in 2 coats at coverage of 0.50kg/m² per coat. Allow the 1st coat to dry before applying the 2nd coat. Leave to dry for 24 hours before further construction activities.
• A fabric reinforcing matt can be laid in between the 2 coats if required. The reinforcing matt will increase the tensile strength of the waterproofing film and for bridging cracks and weak areas.

GENERAL APPLICATION:

• Depends on the scale of work being carried out, but for small areas a paintbrush is ideal, keeping coat thickness 1mm approximately on gutters, valleys, walls, down-pipes, filling cracks, protective coating and spot applications.
• On roofs or medium flat areas a squeegee or large sweeping brush can be used for speed efficiency.

NOTE: Brushes and squeegees should be cleaned immediately after use with LOCAL THINNER. Use solvent or thinner for cured film.

PACKAGING & STORAGE:

• AT-BITUCOTE is available in the following pack:
  • 200 ltr HDPE container
• Shelf life is 12 months in sealed containers as provided
• Keep containers sealed and away from heat and cold in a well ventilated area
• Stir material well before use

HEALTH & SAFETY:

• Protect hands with rubber gloves and eyes with goggles.
• Accidental splashes to the skin or eyes must be rinsed immediately with clean water.
• Store in well-labeled containers.
